„The Hot Gold: Not only hot but liquid,
and besides it undoubtedly cures
several diseases, it is inexhaustibly disposable,
available for everyone.
Hungary is a great power in its exploitation.
Yes, this is the medicinal water.”

In Kapuvár deep-borings were performed in search for hydrocarbons in the 1960’s. Oil and natural gas fields were not discovered, but a significant thermal water supply was found. The thermal water was utilized for a long period for heating glass houses and housing projects as well as for the operation of the thermal water pool of the open-air bath. The therapeutic application of the water became possible after classifying it as medicinal water. The medicinal water is available in the form of pool and tub bath.

Main parameters of the thermal well:
  • Depth: 1800 m
  • Water output: 400 l/s
  • Temperature: 67 °C
  • Water level:  -12,3 m
  • Dissolved salt concentration: 14337 mg/l.

Number of resolution of the Ministry of Welfare on permitting the use of the expression “medicinal water”: 80/Gyf-1992.

Indications:

  • Degenerative spine and articular diseases,
  • Vertebral disc degeneration,
  • Chronic arthritis,
  • Ankylosing spondylitis,
  • Rheumatism of the soft parts,
  • Rehabilitative treatments after orthopedic and nerve surgical operations,
  • Accident after-treatment,
  • Chronic gynaecological inflammation,
  • Chronic urological inflammation.

The thermal well number II can be found at the northeastern part of the town, 1 kilometer from the Resortpark Hanság. The well is signed by an arrow on the following map. The pipelined transportation of the thermal water is established as far as to the resort village. An experimentally medical protocol – which was carried out with a double, “blind”, follow-up method – examined the efficiency of the bath treatment of patients suffering from chronic locomotor disorders and the inhalation treatment of patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases. Due to the impressive result of the control group, it was ascertained that this water is suitable for the treatment of these diseases. Because of its high salt concentration, it is proven to be useful for the bath treatment of chronic gynecological diseases. The field of therapies based on thermal water continuously widens by the opening of a new therapeutic building (tub-bath, massage, therapeutic gymnastics, physical therapy etc.). The permanent treatment of chronic respiratory diseases is ensured by the establishment of an indoor room for inhalation and the utilization of the medicinal water by a modern vaporizing technique.

High salt concentrated thermal waters of sodium hydrogen carbonate and chloride. Due to its high iodide ion content is categorised as iodic, and because of its concentration of sulphide ion is categorised as sulfidic mineral water.

Its lithium and metasilicic acid content is also significant.

Considering the possible utilization, the quality of the medicinal water is the third best in Hungary (behind Hévíz and Igal).

Thermal and open-air bath

The opening of the open-air bath made it possible to utilize the above-mentioned water. The first pool of Flóra Thermal and Open-air Bath was opened in 1981. The pool with a water surface of 400 m2 is equipped with a water rotational system, and contains cleaned, pipelined drinking water, similarly to the study pool with a surface of 200 m2 and the two children’s pools built in 1982. The open-air bath of the town became a thermal bath, when the thermal medicinal pool was accomplished in 1983. After that the medical examinations had proved that the thermal water was not only able to cure locomotor disorders but respiratory diseases, an inhalation brushwood cabin was also built on the site of the bath. The bath has been awaiting the guests all the year round since 2006.
